MLB trade rumors: Yankees close to trading Aroldis Chapman

The day may finally be here when the Yankees begin to sell. According to Ken Rosenthal, sources say the Yankees have informed other clubs that they are close to a deal for Aroldis Chapman. It was always most likely that Chapman would be the first to go with so many teams in need of bullpen help.

Chapman is a free agent at the end of the season, and the Yankees are looking at quite a return for his services in a seller's market. Various teams, such as the Rangers, Nationals, and Cubs have all been linked to interest in Chapman. All three are in need of bullpen help to stabilize their team's quest for the postseason. A team who thinks a successful closer can help them get to the World Series may be willing to part with a top prospect to obtain his services.

Also according to Rosenthal, the Yankees have informed teams that they plan to hold on to Andrew Miller. That allows them to keep the back end of the bullpen strong with Miller and Dellin Betances. Miller is, of course, still under contract for two more seasons. The Yankees obviously believe they can either find a better deal for him later on, or think they are better off with him on the team.

No word yet on any teams or players that may have jumped at the chance for Chapman. These things tend to happen pretty quickly once word spreads, though, so you'll want to stay tuned. Where do you think Chapman will be heading?
