Merry Christmas, Yankees fans, Giancarlo Stanton is now officially a member of the New York Yankees. We have been following this story over the weekend, and we now know that the deal has been approved by Stanton and he has passed his physical with his new team. All that’s left is for the Yankees to present their new slugger to the media.
The Yankees are expected to show off Giancarlo Stanton at 2 PM during an official press conference to kick off the Winter Meetings. This will likely be our first chance to see him in his new jersey with his trademark no. 27 on the back.
The Yankees today announced that they have acquired outfielder @Giancarlo818 & cash considerations from the @Marlins in exchange for 2B Starlin Castro, minor league RHP Jorge Guzman & minor league INF Jose Devers. Stanton's introductory presser will be live on Yankees FB @ 2p.

The trade, which was agreed upon by both parties on Saturday sees the Marlins sending $30 million over to the Yankees in exchange for second baseman Starlin Castro, pitching prospect Jorge Guzman, and minor league infielder Jose Devers. With Castro heading out and Stanton coming in, the team’s roster remains at 40 and no corresponding roster moves need to be made.
Just how historic is this deal? The last time the reigning MVP was moved in the following season was the time the Yankees acquired Alex Rodriguez in 2004. It will also be the first time that a team will open up the season with the home run leaders of the previous season—Stanton (59), Judge (52)—since the 1966 Giants had Willia Mays and Willie McCovey
Hopefully it’s not too late to get those no. 27 Yankees jerseys for that special someone for Christmas this year. You might also be able to pull out your Austin Romine jerseys and pretend they are new.
