Around the Empire

Newsday | Erik Boland: In case you missed it, Luis Cessa was sent back down to Triple-A and Chasen Shreve was recalled from Scranton. Shreve, who struggled previously in the majors, has brought a brand new grip for his slider, similiar to Masahiro Tanaka's, and is hoping that will help him stay on the active roster.

Wall Street Journal | Jared Diamond: Although the Yankees don't currently have a bona fide star on the team, they're still sending three All-Stars to the Midsummer Classic in San Diego. Carlos Beltran, Dellin Betances, and first-timer Andrew Miller will represent the Yankees. Along with the three Mets' representatives, New York will have its most All-Stars since 2012.

LoHud Yankees Blog | Chad Jennings: Masahiro Tanaka wasn't named to the All-Star Game, but on Tuesday night he surely looked like an All-Star. Bouncing back from a six-inning, six-run start where he raised his ERA by 34 points, Tanaka managed to get himself back within the top 10 in ERA and top five in WHIP. There are likely pitchers who can't or won't pitch in the All-Star Game, and when time comes to name replacements, Tanaka shouldn't be overlooked. But it's probably just because he had an extra day's rest. Right, Girardi?

FanGraphs | August Fagerstrom: Aroldis Chapman's pitching style is similar to Bartolo Colon's in that they're both heavily reliant on their fastballs. However, where Chapman relies on his speed, Colon relies on his ability to put the pitch where he wants. From last year to this year, Chapman has the largest decrease in walk rate, and it seems putting pitches over the plate similar to Colon is the difference maker.

LoHud Yankees Blog | Chad Jennings: Whether it's because they're running out of ideas or because they're out of options, the Yankees have made some very un-Yankee like moves recently. From benching Alex Rodriguez to keeping Rob Refsnyder around, the Yankees are changing in front of our eyes.

Song of the Day

Halo Theme Mjolnir Mix by Martin O'Donnell and Michael Salvatori ft. Steve Vai

It’s Aliens Week on Pinstripe Alley. Today's song comes from the classic Xbox game Halo 2. I almost went with the Gungnir Mix from the Halo 2: Anniversary release, but instead chose to stick with the classic. Go Yankees, Go Halo. As always, please link us your song of the day.
