Around the Empire
New York Post | George A. King III: It’s July and the trade deadline approaches. It’s pretty obvious where the Yankees best trade chips reside this year. Contending teams are taking a good, long, and hard look at the Ghidorah members of the Yankees’ bullpen, specifically at Andrew Miller. However, the Yankees are still saying that they have no intention of trading him. Perhaps the Cubs or someone else are going to have to blow them away with an offer. To be fair, Miller is that good and the Yankees should hold out for the best possible package if they do wind up trading him.
LoHud | Chad Jennings: A look at the Yankees’ team numbers for the previous month of June. In case you were just not watching, and no one would blame you if you weren’t, Didi Gregorius, Carlos Beltran, and Brett Gardner were the Yankees’ best hitters. Perhaps more surprising is how bad Nathan Eovaldi pitched and how well Michael Pineda pitched. They just can’t both pitch well at the same time I guess.
Newsday | Erik Boland: The Yankees are back in Chase Headley’s old stomping grounds to face the Padres this weekend. Headley came up within the Padres system and he still has good feelings and fond memories about the team that traded him away to the Yankees. The Padres fans did not give him the warmest of receptions during last night’s game though.
New York Daily News | Mark Feinsand: Alex Rodriguez pinch hit, knocked in a run, and crossed the plate in the top of the 9th last night. If the Yankees did rally back to tie the game or take the lead, Joe Girardi was going to play him at third base. The look on A-Rod’s face was one of a young, joyous child as he raced into the clubhouse to get his glove. Way to ruin his hopes, offense.
Fun Questions
- Out of all the Yankees’ minor league affiliates, which one would you like to see live the most?
- Create a zany hot dog. What would you call it? What toppings would be on it?
