Around the Empire
FanGraphs | Dave Cameron: Jacoby Ellsbury will always be linked to Robinson Cano when it comes to Yankee history. The fact that the Yankees chose Ellsbury over Cano sealed that fate. Since then, the Yankees' $153 million man has been under the microscope with extreme expectations. While he may never live up to those lofty expectations, when healthy he's been a productive player for the Yankees, so it's too soon to write his contract off as being terrible.
MLB.com | Bryan Hoch: Yankees' HOPE Week continued yesterday as Joe Girardi, Jacoby Ellsbury, Carlos Beltran, and Starlin Castro assisted Cleaning for a Reason. This charity offers assistance to women undergoing cancer therapy by offering a complimentary house cleaning so the patient can focus on their health.
New York Post | Dan Martin: After an abysmal start to the season, Michael Pineda has started to inspire hope with his last two starts. Pineda and Larry Rothschild worked on his arm angle and credit that with his recent success. Let's hope he can keep it up.
NY Post | Joel Sherman: Looking back on the 2006 draft which produced a decent amount of actual major league pitchers, including relief aces like Dellin Betances, Mark Melancon, and David Robertson (miss you). While the Yankees haven't particularly drafted well, 10 years ago they had one of their strongest drafts in recent memory.
NY Daily News | Mark Feinsand: A bold take, but the Yankees may have found the next Mariano Rivera in Andrew Miller. Whether he can be compared to Mo or not is up for debate, but there's no debating just how excellent he's been. Miller has certainly established himself as one of the best relief pitchers in baseball, and arguably the best of the three-headed monster in the bullpen. Let's hope the Yankees don't trade him.
Fun Question
- What's worse: Adding someone on social media moments after meeting them or randomly liking a picture that's a few months old?
- Forget about insurance relief, which contract is worse: Jacoby Ellsbury or David Wright?
