Around the Empire

YES Network | A.J. Herrmann: Luis Severino has not performed well this season and now things have just gotten worse for the young Yankees' pitcher. After yesterday's brutal outing, Severino went for an MRI for soreness in his right elbow, otherwise known as "words you never ever want to hear" regarding a pitcher. The good news, if you can call it that, is that the MRI revealed a mild right triceps strain and he will be placed on the 15-day DL. Injuries are still piling up for the Yankees, but thankfully this one did not end with the words "will require Tommy John surgery." According to Jon Morosi on Twitter, Chad Green will be called up from Triple-A as a corresponding move to this injury.

Minor League Ball | Quinn Barry: Jorge Mateo, the Yankees young SS prospect, is considered to be "untradeable" by Yankees GM Brian Cashman. Here is an in-depth analysis of his offensive and defensive performance thus far.

New York Post | George A. King III: Speaking of Mateo, the Yankees have had him work out at second base and very soon they are going to try playing him there. It is assumed that this move is in preparation for Mateo's eventual promotion to Double-A Trenton, where he will play along SS prospect Tyler Wade.

The Trentonian | Kyle Franko: In addition to Mateo being prepped to play second base, Tyler Wade will also be getting some reps there as well. It will be interesting to see how this plays out for the future. With Didi Gregorius and Starlin Castro on the team for a few more years, the Yankees have time to experiment with Mateo and Wade.

NJ.com | Brendan Kuty: Cuban star third baseman Yulieski Gourriel has asked Aroldis Chapman about what it's like to play for the Yankees. Gourriel's favorite player is Alex Rodriguez and he is supposedly very interested in playing in the Bronx. Take that as you will.
