Around the Empire: Yankees news - 9/28/15

Stephen Drew's sick; Luis Severino as a wild card game starter; Nathan Eovaldi plays catch; Derek Jeter honored at UM

Doug Pensinger/Getty Images | Brendan Kuty: Stephen Drew has been suffering from a head cold, and possibly an ear/sinus infection, that has sidelined him for much of the past few weeks. This could be a recurring problem because of the concussion he had in 2012, or this could have been brought on by the ground ball that hit him in the face. If this continues, Rob Refsnyder could get a postseason roster spot.

ESPN | Wallace Matthews: Hypothetically, Luis Severino could start the wild card game. The Yankees and Joe Girardi still believe that Masahiro Tanaka will be ready to go, but the rookie has been dominant enough to warrant a look should Tanaka be unavailable.

CBS Sports | Rotowire: Nathan Eovaldi played catch on Friday and Saturday, but given his progression and the closeness to the postseason, it's likely he'd only be available out of the bullpen should the Yankees make it that far, if he even returns this season at all. | Courtney Martinez: Even though Derek Jeter opted to be a Yankee instead of playing at the University of Michigan, the University still decided to honor him with a personalized football jersey at Saturday's game against Brigham Young University.
