Around the Empire: Yankees News - 3/25/15

Kim Klement-USA TODAY Sports | Brendan Kuty: Masahiro Tanaka starting tonight's game lines him up to start Opening Day for the Yankees, breaking CC Sabathia's streak of six consecutive Opening Day starts. Tanaka says being named the Opening Day starter would be a great honor because he's adorable.

New York Times | Tyler Kepner: The Yankees need more players like Brett Gardner to come up through their system and succeed. Hope for that comes in the form of Luis Severino, Aaron Judge, and Gregory Bird.

New York Post | George King III: Improved arm strength is basically the last hurdle the Yankees are looking for in Tanaka's return from a partially torn UCL. His velocity is a few ticks lower than it was last year, but Larry Rothschild is confident the power will be there. | Brendan Kuty: Nathan Eovaldi started in minor league camp yesterday, and he continued to impress with his results. Pitching coach Larry Rothschild believes that he's headed in the right direction toward being better and better as his splitter progresses.
