Yankees vs. Angels Game Preview: Pineda's Day Off

To restrict Michael Pineda's workload, the Yankees will turn to CC Sabathia in a battle of lefties against CJ Wilson at 1:05 PM.

Joe Nicholson-USA TODAY Sports

With all of the recent developments in baseball analytics, experts are coming to the same overarching conclusion: winning streaks are better than losing streaks. After sweeping the Mariners in Seattle and taking two in a row against the Angels, the Yankees will look to close things out at home with another sweep.

The Yankees send CC Sabathia (2-7, 5.45 ERA) out to the mound against the Halos, with the hope that he can quiet the likes of Mike Trout and Albert Pujols. For his young career, Trout is 3-8 against CC with two doubles. Pujols is just 1-12 against the Yankees' southpaw, so there is reason to believe that Sabathia has a knack for keeping one of the game's greatest hitters on his toes. Angels fans, of course, still can't like Sabathia after he shut them down in the 2009 ALCS, winning series MVP honors.

CJ Wilson has always been a Yankee killer, putting up a lifetime 3.07 ERA against some very good Bronx Bomber teams. Against Wilson, Alex Rodriguez and Mark Teixeira have OPS's of .546 and .433, respectively. As a team full of lefties, it is imperative that guys like A-Rod and Tex take advantage of Wilson's mistakes.

While CJ Wilson has experienced success against the Yankees in the past, he hasn't always faced them while they were riding a five game winning streak or after they tattooed Garrett Richards for six runs in 0.2 innings. Between Richards, David Price, and Felix Hernandez, the Yankees have shown they can handle elite pitching. Hopefully they can prove themselves again by doing some damage against an old enemy, today at 1:05 EST.
