The Yankees find themselves back in California for the final time this season, which is a welcome gift for those of us on the East Coast who don't enjoy recapping games at 1 in the morning. Their final trip out west features a three-game set against the Angels who currently sit four games back of the Astros in the AL West.
CC Sabathia gets first crack at the Halos, looking for his fourth win of the season. The big left-hander has really struggled this season and really should be concerned about his place in the rotation instead of the much more consistent Adam Warren, but money talks and the Yankees have not shown any indication that results will determine CC's fate. Sabathia faces another left-hander who had a poor outing in his last start in C.J. Wilson in tonight's game. Could be a lot of offense in this one, folks.
Tuesday's middle game will feature Ivan Nova's second start since returning from Tommy John surgery opposite Andrew Heaney for the Angels. Nova was really good in his first start back against the Phillies, and the Yankees can use all the good pitchers they can get right now. The series finale could be the last start for Adam Warren as he squares off against Matt Shoemaker. Warren leads Yankee starters in ERA, for what that's worth, but it is incredibly difficult to justify sending him to the bullpen over the likes of Sabathia at this stage. Warren at least gets one more chance to try and change someone important's mind in the matter.
In other news, Jacoby Ellsbury is DHing for the Tampa Yankees tonight. Hurry back, man!
