Yankees vs. Mariners preview: Michael Pineda takes on his former team

Michael Pineda gets to visit the place where he got his start tonight, squaring off against Felix Hernandez in the first of three games at Safeco Field. Pineda was, of course, traded to the Yankees for Jesus Montero before Pineda tore his labrum and Montero gained a small human worth of weight in an offseason. The Mariners haven't faced the player they traded away to this point. The Yankees will also be facing an old friend tonight in Robinson Cano. Reunions for everyone.

Seattle enters the series 6.5 games back in the AL West. Despite some really lackluster play surrounding a sweep of the Royals, the Yankees have somehow managed to maintain a tie for the AL East lead with the Tampa Bay Rays. The Rays are on their own west coast excursion tonight, taking on the Angels in Anaheim. You don't need me to tell you how difficult the task of taking on King Felix will be for an offense that has looked kind of inept aside from the beatdown they put on Kansas City on Memorial Day. Hernandez comes into tonight's game with a sub-2.00 ERA and having only lost one of his starts in 2015.

Can Pineda channel the power of the strike 'em out against his former team? Can the Yankees go back to that thing where they win games you might expect them to lose?

Welcome back, Stephen Drew. Please leave again.
