Yankees vs. Orioles game preview: Going for the series win for moms everywhere

Happy Mother's Day to all you moms out there!

Today, Yankees de facto ace Michael Pineda gets the ball in the last game of a four-game set against the Baltimore Orioles. Thanks to victories on Thursday and Friday, the Yankees can't lose this series–if they win today they win the series, if they lose, they tie.

Pineda will give them their best chance to win as the big right-hander has a 2.97 ERA and 2.19 FIP over 39.1 innings and has yet to lose a game this year. Perhaps most impressive is the fact that Big Mike has 38 strikeouts against only three (!!!) walks–a 22.4 K-BB% that is only bested by Clayton Kershaw. Pineda will face off against Bud Norris, who is having a terrible season with a 9.75 ERA and 4.82 FIP over 24 innings so far. He's been much closer to league-average over his last two starts with a 3.95 ERA while reaching the seventh inning on both occasions. He looks bad on paper, but Norris might finally be settling in after a rocky start, so it could be unfair to expect a blowout.

After being given the day off yesterday, Joe Girardi will have his bullpen at full force with Dellin Betances and Andrew Miller available this afternoon. Chris Martin has been placed on the disabled list with elbow tendonitis and he's been replaced by Branden Pinder. Martin started the season off strong, but seemed to be fading in recent appearances. He pitched in just 1.2 innings in the month of May, surrendering two runs on five hits without collecting any strikeouts. Who knows how serious the injury might be or if we'll even ever see him again since Jacob Lindgren seems so close to the majors and the return of Chris Capuano could push Adam Warren back into the bullpen.

Today's game starts at 1:05 PM and will be broadcasted on YES and MLB Network.
