Yankees vs. Orioles Game Preview: Eovaldi and Norris look to bounceback

Eovaldi's Yankee debut was overshadowed by 19 innings of baseball. This second time around, all eyes are on Nate the Great.

Following a 4-3 Baltimore victory last night, the Yankees and Orioles will play the last of a three game series tonight at 7:05 p.m. Today is Jackie Robinson Day across MLB, meaning each player will be wearing the number 42 on their back.

The Yankees will throw Nathan Eovaldi for his second start in pinstripes (well, they’ll wear the away gray uniforms, but you get the point). Last time out was Eovaldi’s Yankee debut, though the game against rival Boston will more widely be remembered for its length, finally ending after 19 innings. Eovaldi went only 5 1/3 out of the 19 frames, allowing eight hits and three earned runs. He struck out one and allowed one walk, and kept his fastball velocity in the mid to upper 90s. The sheer length and amount of lead changes in the game earned Eovaldi the no decision against Boston (if you’re still of the mindset that win/loss record holds value). The 25-year-old has a very high ceiling, and many fans will be excitably watching this game for hints towards it.

Throwing for the Orioles will be Bud Norris. Norris went just three innings in Baltimore’s home opener against the Blue Jays April 10. Eight earned runs on seven hits, a walk and one hit batsman earned Norris the early yank. Surprisingly, Stephen Drew has killed Norris in 24 career plate appearances. He’s batted .368/.500/.737 with five walks, tallying two doubles, a triple and a home run. Garrett Jones has seen the most of Norris, facing him in 30 plate appearances, batting .269/.333/.500 with four extra-base hits.

A win tonight in the rubber match at Camden Yards would secure the Yankees' first victorious series on the young 2015 season. First pitch is scheduled for 7:05 p.m. and will be broadcasted on YES Network & MLB Network.
