Yankees lineup vs. Angels - Brendan Ryan not back because Michael Pineda's suspension isn't over yet

Al Bello

Welcome to late night baseball as the Yankees are in Anaheim to take on the Angels. This is Derek Jeter's last regular season series in Angel Stadium, so expect some gifts to be given.

Brett Gardner will lead off, Derek Jeter is in his normal spot, and Jacoby Ellsbury is hitting third, giving Carlos Beltran the day off. Mark Teixeira, Brian McCann, and Alfonso Soriano make up the middle of the lineup. Kelly Johnson will be the third baseman, Brian Roberts is in at second base, and Ichiro Suzuki is in right field.

Brendan Ryan was supposed to return from the disabled list tonight as Michael Pineda was reinstated from his 10-game suspension and placed on the disabled list. Unfortunately, a rainout has changed all that:

The Yankees will have to play with a 24-man active roster for one more game. If they make it through tonight's game, Pineda will be placed on the 15-day DL and Ryan can be added to the roster for tomorrow's game. His return will result in lesser playing time for the likes of Brian Roberts, Yangervis Solarte, and Kelly Johnson as Joe Girardi will juggle the four of them while Pineda is injured. When he returns, it could mean the end of Roberts or Solarte on the team.

Am I the only one who finds it a little silly that you can't go on the DL when suspended (there's logic here), but can serve a suspension if you're already on the DL (less logic here).
