Yankees lineup vs. Rays - Jeter sits, Matt Daley called up

The Yankees are going to hope that last night's game isn't a sign of things to come. Now that the bullpen has gotten that out of their system, the team will try again.

The top of the order has been flipped around a bit with Jacoby Ellsbury hitting leadoff and Brett Gardner batting in the two-hole in place of Derek Jeter. Carlos Beltran returns to the lineup as the DH, so they're probably giving him just a little bit more time to recover from falling over that wall before he's thrown back out in right field. Brian McCann and Alfonso Soriano have also been flipped, with the former batting fourth and the latter batting fifth. Yangervis Solarte is at third, Kelly Johnson is at first again, Brian Roberts is the second baseman, and Dean Anna fills in at short with Jeter on the bench.

Following last night's embarrassingly disastrous appearance where he hit three batters in one inning without recording an out, Cesar Cabral was almost immediately designated for assignment. Taking his place on the roster is Matt Daley, who will be with the team today, giving the bullpen a fresh arm after David Phelps, Adam Warren, Matt Thornton, and Shawn Kelley all pitched last night. Vidal Nuno is probably going to start Sunday, so that just limits the bullpen even further as they finish up their series in Tampa Bay and head to Boston. Thankfully, David Robertson should be ready to come off the disabled list on Tuesday and will reinforce the back of the bullpen when he returns.
