The Yankees feasted on Orioles pitching to begin their road trip, and now they’ll face off against the other bird within their division. The Blue Jays did them a favor in taking two of three against Tampa Bay to restore New York’s ten-game division lead, but the Yankees’ eyes are on maintaining their slim hold on the top record in the American League, and thus they’ll have to repay Toronto some other time.
Domingo German gets the ball to start this four-game series, and he’s pitched his way back to the top of the rotation lately. German’s seven-inning gem against Boston in his last start was good enough to bring his season ERA below four, making him the only Yankee starter with that distinction. Since returning from the IL, German has regained his early season dominance, and he’ll look to add to his team-leading 14 wins tonight.
Thomas Pannone got his first taste of MLB pitching last season, but his sophomore year hasn’t been as kind. Pannone has mostly pitched out of the bullpen this year, but with Toronto’s action at the deadline he finds himself back in the starting rotation and working on reducing his 5.98 ERA. His numbers last year suggested he would take a fair step back, but his 4.76 FIP this year may mean he’s due for some positive regression.
First pitch is scheduled for 7:07 p.m. EST. You can catch the action live on YES, or stream it on MLB.tv or fubo.tv. You can also listen to the broadcast on WFAN 660/101.9 FM or WADO 1280.
Looking to stay hot in Toronto.
