The Yankees continue to climb out of the hole they put themselves in to start this West Coast trip. After getting swept away in Oakland, the Yankees are almost back to even on the road trip, they’ve held onto their top spot in the American League, and they can push their division lead back over double digits.
To accomplish that, they’ll need a rebound start from Masahiro Tanaka. Tanaka battled to give New York six innings in his last start, but he put them behind immediately by giving up five runs in the first three innings. Tanaka isn’t far removed from his last gem, tossing eight shutout against the Blue Jays on August 11, but that was one of the few strong starts he’s enjoyed on the road this year.
Yusei Kikuchi will get the nod for the Mariners, and he’s coming off of his best performance of the season. Kikuchi dominated the Blue Jays, pitching a two-hit shutout while picking up eight strikeouts. Prior to that however, Kikuchi has failed to go longer than five innings in five of his last six starts.
First pitch is scheduled for 10:10 p.m. EST. You can watch the game live on YES, or stream it on mlb.tv or fubo.tv. You can also listen to the broadcast on WFAN 660/101.9 FM or WADO 1280.
Late night #TanakaTime.
