The Yankees continued their dominance over the Orioles this afternoon, and now have the opportunity to sweep the day-night doubleheader against them. Doubleheaders have been kind to the Yankees this year, as they are currently 10-1 in them.
The opener has been a big factor in the Yankees’ success during these situations, and they’ll turn to it again tonight. Chad Green has been lights out in the role, pitching to a 1.98 ERA and striking out 22 batters in 13.2 innings. New York had won every game that they deployed Green as an opener until Saturday, when Adam Ottavino couldn’t hold onto a 4-3 lead late in the game.
The Orioles will send out Ty Blach as their 26th man on the roster to fill a spot start. Blach just recently joined the Orioles organization after getting waived by the Giants, and has been in the minors for most of the year. In 17 starts this year at Triple-A Blach has pitched to a 5.93 ERA, so expect the Yankee bats to be aggressive early against him.
First pitch is scheduled for 7:05 p.m. EST. You can catch the action live on WPIX, or listen to the broadcast on WFAN 660/101.9 FM or WADO 1280.
Let's keep flying high in Game 2.
