The Yankees head out from home after a successful stay, taking series against the Blue Jays, Rays, and Rockies. The going gets tougher on paper, as they face off against two contenders in the Twins and Red Sox, but they might be catching the Twins at the right time. Minnesota has lost four of their last six, all at home, and are feeling pressure for the first time this season in their division race.
New York will start out the series by sending veteran CC Sabathia to the mound, and he’s found some consistency in going at least six innings in each of his last four starts. Sabathia has a lengthy history against the Twins thanks to his time spent in the AL Central, and he’s been very strong in that head to head matchup (20-9, 3.09 ERA, 213 strikeouts in 262.1 innings).
Facing off against Sabathia for the Twins will be Martin Perez. Perez subdued the Mets for six innings in his last start, before the Twins’ bullpen imploded and cost him the victory. Perez was on the other side of a blowout in his next previous start, getting the better of his former team in the Texas Rangers. Perhaps we’ll get another offensive outbreak tonight.
First pitch is scheduled for 8:10 p.m. EST. You can tune in on YES, or listen to the broadcast with WFAN 660/101.9FM or WADO 1280.
Back on the road. First stop: Minneapolis.
