The Rivalry opened up with a favorable outcome for the Yankees last night, giving them the leg up after the series was delayed by weather on Thursday. They faced their toughest matchup pitching-wise against Chris Sale and found a way to win. Now they have a pinstripe-favored duel with an opportunity to win their ninth straight series.
Domingo German gets the ball for the Bombers, and he has been sensational filling in for the injured Luis Severino. German leads the league with nine wins, pitching to a 3.43 ERA and 3.84 FIP and picking up 63 strikeouts in 60.1 innings pitched, but he got shelled for seven runs his last time out against the Royals. Amazingly, the Yankees held out in that game and almost came back, but they will undoubtedly need a bounce-back performance against the Sox.
Rick Porcello will oppose German on the mound, coming into the game with an average 4.41 ERA and 4.72 FIP. Porcello has managed to go at least six innings deep in each of his last seven starts, however, recovering from an ugly opening to the season where his ERA was above double digits after several starts.
First pitch is scheduled for 7:15 p.m. EST. You can catch the action on FOX, or listen in at WFAN 660/101.9 FM or WADO 1280.
Flip the calendar over and let's do it again.
