The Yankees took game one of this doubleheader behind the power of their bats, and now have an opportunity to sweep the day and take their seventh consecutive victory. To do so, they’ll have to work through a bullpen game. Chad Green will start and he’ll hope to do better than the performance he gave on May 19. when he opened against the Rays and gave up two runs in 1.2 innings.
There are a number of options to get the ball after Green, including Chance Adams who was called up as the 26th man for the doubleheader today. Only Adam Ottavino and Luis Cessa pitched out of the ‘pen in the day game, though Aroldis Chapman did start to warm up in the ninth. Aaron Boone should have plenty of fresh arms to deploy.
On the Royals’ side, Jorge Lopez will take the mound looking to reverse his fortunes in 2019. Lopez has pitched to a 6.04 ERA (and a 5.75 FIP) in 10 appearances over 50.2 innings so far, and made a brief relief appearance back on Wednesday to help right the ship.
First pitch is scheduled for 8:15 p.m. EST, and is being televised on YES locally and mlb.tv out-of-market. It is also being broadcast on WFAN 660/101.9 FM, and WADO 1280, and you can stream the game on Fubo.tv.
