The Yankees took first place last night, and they’ve got an opportunity to hold onto it if they can take this series against the Rays. To do so, they’re running back a pitching matchup that went in their favor the last time these two teams met up: the consistent Masahiro Tanaka against the Cy Young winner Blake Snell. The score got blown out late in that outing, but the two delivered on a pitchers’ duel then and will look to repeat that performance today.
The Yankees’ lineup against Snell this time will be bolstered by the additions of Gary Sanchez and Aaron Hicks. Sanchez in particular has a great history against Snell, launching three home runs and walking five times against the 26-year-old. Luke Voit was also mired in a lengthy slump the first time he faced Snell, but the first baseman may have broken out of it with three hits and a solo home run yesterday.
First pitch is scheduled for 1:05 p.m. EST, and you can catch the action live on YES locally or with mlb.tv out-of-market. You can also listen to the broadcast on WFAN 660/101.9 FM or WADO 1280, or stream the game on Fubo.tv.
Right back at it as we look to clinch the series.
