Another opportunity to win a series presents itself to the Yankees, but there’s more on the line than usual. If the Yankees can come out on top, they will swap places with Tampa Bay and claim their first moment on top of the division since Opening Day. A lot has changed since then, which makes their ascension back in the standings all the more impressive — but it hinges on success here tonight.
To do so, the Yankees will send out CC Sabathia. The left-hander has been a model of consistency so far this season, pitching exactly five innings in all but one start so far, and going 5.1 innings in the exception to the rule. The Rays will counter with Ryne Stanek, one of the team’s openers who hasn’t pitched more than two innings in any outing this year. Expect the bullpens to play a heavy factor tonight.
First pitch is scheduled for 6:10 p.m. EST. The game will be televised on YES locally and mlb.tv for out-of-market viewers, and broadcast on WFAN 660/101.9 FM and WADO 1280. You can also stream the game on Fubo.tv.
With last night’s win in the books, we can clinch the series tonight.
