The race for the American League East title ended last night, and the Yankees have to quickly turn their eyes to the ever persistent Oakland Athletics in the standings. The two teams don’t have any meetings remaining however, so the only thing left to do is take care of business against the opponents in front of the Yankees.
Enter Baltimore. The Orioles have the worst record in baseball, but they’ve been a persistent thorn in New York’s side this season. This is the last opportunity the Yankees will get to face the Orioles, so time is running out to flip the script on this matchup. The Yankees need a strong showing for the sake of the Wild Card, and also partially for their pride.
CC Sabathia will take the mound for the Bombers tonight. Sabathia was removed after just 2.1 innings in his previous start against the Blue Jays, his shortest outing of the season. In his last three starts, Sabathia sports a 9.28 ERA. The Yankees need CC to right the ship, and quickly.
Opposing him will be Yefry Ramirez. The former Yankee farmhand has had a season to match his team, consistently poor. Ramirez enters the game with a 1-6 record and a 5.50 ERA. Based on my understanding of baseball, that means we’re probably looking at a 1-0 pitcher’s duel with both starters going seven/eight innings. I’d be more than happy to be wrong.
Game time is scheduled for 7:05pm EDT. You can catch the action on WPIX11, stream it on Fox Sports Go, or listen in at WFAN 660/101.9 FM, and WADO 1280.
