New York Yankees at Baltimore Orioles: CC Sabathia vs Jimmy Yacabonis

New York looks to capitalize on one of the worst teams in baseball

MLB: New York Yankees at Tampa Bay Rays Kim Klement-USA TODAY Sports

The Yankees took the final two games against the Blue Jays, but enter their series against the Orioles in a bit of a pitching bind. David Robertson was used in both games, and closer Aroldis Chapman exited Saturday’s game with left knee tendinitis that will keep him out for the short term. Unfortunately, the short term for the Yankees starts with a doubleheader.

Taking all of this into account, the Bombers could use a big outing from their starter, and CC Sabathia will be the man to take the mound in the first game this afternoon. CC has been phenomenal in his last two outings, twirling a seven inning gem against the Red Sox on June 29 and a quality six innings against the Braves on July 4. He’ll look to keep New York afloat and preserve the pen for the nightcap.

The lineup going to work for CC should have a good opportunity to strike early against Jimmy Yacabonis. He has made only three appearances this season, two in the bullpen, and owns a lofty 8.53 ERA. New York teed off on him back in April, scoring three runs in one inning of work. Brett Gardner gets the first game off, as Aaron Hicks returns to center field and Clint Frazier takes left. Tyler Wade gets the start at second, after appearing as a pinch runner in yesterday’s game.

First pitch is scheduled for 4:07 PM. You can watch on YES, stream on the FOX Sports GO app, or listen at WFAN 660/101.9 FM and WADO 1280.
