Four games against the Orioles this early into the season should have been a dream come true for the Yankees, but alas, here we are hoping to just even the series. With CC Sabathia and Brandon Drury now on the disabled list, a win today would at least be a nice consolation prize for everything that has happened these last few days.
Jordan Montgomery is up again, and the Yankees will hope he can do a little bit more than the bare minimum this time around. He pitched five innings of one-run ball last time around, and while that’s usually just fine from your fifth starter, this team’s bullpen is gassed and struggling right now. Montgomery has shown the ability to go deeper into the game, so here’s hoping.
It’s hard to imagine the offense being what drives this team to a win, but stranger things have happened. We have Brett Gardner, Aaron Judge, and Giancarlo Stanton at the top of the order, but then Neil Walker is hitting cleanup. From there, it’s something of a spring training lineup with guys like Tyler Austin, Miguel Andujar, Jace Peterson, Austin Romine, and Ronald Torreyes in there. Those last three are especially brutal.
