Following yesterday’s tie with the Rays, the Yankees head back into Tampa to take on the visiting Philadelphia Phillies. As of today, the Yankees have exactly one more week of spring training, if you want to count the exhibition game against the Braves at SunTrust Park on the 31st. This means that time is running out for those competing for a job to make their case and one-up their peers.
While the Yankees sent out Jordan Montgomery on Thursday, the team changes gears to give CC Sabathia some time on the mound. The veteran lefty has had a tough spring with a 9.45 ERA in just 6.2 innings. It’s not what you want to see, but it’s important to remember that this is really par for the course with him. He’s usually struggled during this time of the year, even when he was still good. CC and the Yankees lineup will face Jeremy Hellickson today.

Luis Severino will get into the game at some point. He needs to have a better outing than he’s recently had, otherwise he’s going to get left behind come April. Gary Sanchez betting second could be an interesting thing to watch out for. As we get closer to Opening Day, you know they’re going to want to be as accurate as possible when it comes to the starting lineup. The battle between Aaron Hicks and Aaron Judge seems to be going down to the wire, but I’m sure they will at least share some time in the outfield in the early goings.
You can watch the game on MLB.tv at 1:05 pm ET.
