Baseball season is here and bragging rights are on the line. Test your predictive skills by answering the questions below. The Yankees will try to actually play baseball today, even though the weather looks like it might not cooperate. Should the game be postponed, the questions will still be good for whenever the team gets to play their home opener.

1. Which Yankee gets the first hit of 2016?

2. Which Yankee will drive in the first run of 2016?

3. How many strikeouts for Masahiro Tanaka?

4. How many relievers used by Joe Girardi?

5. Which team scores first?

6. How will the first Yankee reach base (hit, walk, HBP, etc)?

7. How many hits allowed by Dallas Keuchel?

8. How many innings pitched for Tanaka?

9. What will be the outcome of Alex Rodriguez's first at-bat?

10. Which Yankee will work the first walk of the season?

Tiebreaker: Predict the final score of the game

Good luck!

SPOILERS AHEAD.

As much as the rain would like to ruin everything, a new season of Yankees baseball is one more day away, even . So it's getting to be just about the time for us to formally make our 2016 predictions! Nikhil won the contest last year and Greg has won it in the past as well, but there are 14 other writers who could take home the prize (?) this fall.

You can play along too! Predict whatever you'd like in the comments, and don't be afraid to go big or go home, as Matt Ferenchick did. Apologies for spoiling what will now inevitably happen in 2016. Don't say we didn't warn you.

Which openers rank among the greatest in Yankees history?

Baseball is officially underway in 2016 now that today's opening salvo between the Cardinals and Pirates is in the books. As exciting as that might be, for Yankees fans it's nothing compared to their own Opening Day, tomorrow against the Astros. It also happens to be their home opener at Yankee Stadium, which is always a much-anticipated event as well, going all the way back to when Babe Ruth christened the old stadium with its first ever home run in 1923.

In the 83 years since then, Opening Day has remained one of baseball's cherished traditions. As the old adage goes, everyone is in first place and there's the feeling that anything can happen, regardless of expectations (just ask last year's Mets or Astros). So whether Opening Day has been at home or on the road, it's created some tremendous highlights for Yankees fans. These are just some of those memorable moments.

1996: Hello, Derek Jeter / A snowy beginning

Yesterday was the 20th anniversary of an awesome Opening Day in '96. Entrusted with the starting shortstop position, the future captain wasted no time in proving to new skipper Joe Torre that he had nothing to worry about. Jeter belted his first career homer off a big name in veteran Dennis Martinez, and he added an acrobatic over-the-shoulder catcher, too.

The Yankees won that opener and just a few days later, they also had an unforgettable home opener bombarded by snow. That didn't bother Andy Pettitte though:

The unflappable Texan threw 6 1/3 strong innings against the Royals, and as he would do so often in '96, closer John Wetteland finished off the victory.

1978: It's raining Reggie Bars!

Hot on the heels of their first World Series title in 15 years, the Yankees got off to a bit of a slow start on the road, but they already had a fun promotion planned for their home opener. Shortly after he signed with the Yankees, Reggie Jackson said that one day, he would have a candy bar named after him. Well after crushing three homers in the decisive Game 6 of the 1977 World Series to clinch the title, the Yankees did just that.

Everyone entering the stadium on April 13, 1978 was given a "Reggie Bar" to enjoy. Some people ate them right away, some people kept them as souvenirs, and some threw them onto the field when Reggie lived up to the moment by smashing a three-run homer in his first at-bat:

The game was delayed while the grounds crew picked up all the Reggie Bars, creating a pretty ridiculous spectacle. The dinger was the difference, as the Yankees beat the White Sox, 4-2, and went on to win another championship.

1998: ALL OF THE RUNS

There is tragically no video online of the record-setting 17-13 carnage at the 1998 home opener. In Yankee Stadium's 75th year, the Yankees and Athletics celebrated with fireworks and a highly entertaining back-and-forth slugfest. In lieu of footage, here's a sample of what I wrote about the chaos last year:

No game in the history of Yankee Stadium had ever seen as much scoring in one contest, and luckily for the 56,717 in attendance, they were also part of a record crowd—it was the largest one at Yankee Stadium since it was remodeled in 1976. Those crazy first five innings were what people couldn’t stop talking about the next day though. They took two hours and 51 minutes to play, longer than eight of the other fourteen MLB games on the schedule... The A’s and Yankees scored 29 runs on 28 hits and 14 walks.

After the game, Buster Olney heard from first base coach Jose Cardenal, who remarked, "This has got to be the most brutal game I’ve ever seen in my life."

Brutal for the players? Probably. Amazing to watch? Absolutely. Catch it if it ever comes across "Yankees Classics" again.

Even though we traditionally think of Opening Day as the start of the baseball season, I think it's better to think of it as the start of memory-making season. What's your favorite one?

Opening Day is more than just the first day of baseball. Even though we're just two days away from the first pitch of the 2016 Yankees season, I've been thinking a lot this winter about how baseball shapes our lives, shapes the way we crystallize memories about ourselves and our loved ones for years to come. If you're a baseball fan, you know what I'm talking about.

From November to April, there are obviously holidays. You spend time with your family, your friends, and you cherish the times you spend together. The difference between the winter holidays and baseball, though, is the idea of normalcy. Holidays, albeit "arbitrary" in that we choose a day for them, are special. They represent a religious purpose, something to commemorate, or a symbolic moment of reflection. Everyone is off from work, we cook a special meal, and there is something certainly special about all aspects of that day.

Baseball, on the other hand, is not special. It's mundane. It's, for example, the random Wednesday afternoon in July where you get a couple of tickets and spend a day at the ballpark with your brother, eat a couple of hot dogs, talk, and watch a ballgame. It's not going to go down in history as the greatest day ever, but it's going to stick somewhere in the back of your head.

It's easy to remember Christmas one year or another, but it's a whole other thing to remember that random Wednesday, or that one time you went with a friend or a significant other. Baseball thrives on forcing us to reflect on and to remember the mundane, lazy afternoons and evenings. It reminds us that our lives aren't about the highlights or the big moments--no, life is about those momentary pauses, most likely the times when we're most relaxed, and sometimes the most vulnerable.

So when I say that I'm excited for baseball to start, I'm excited for that to start. I'm excited for an excuse to remember an otherwise normal day. For this post, I think it would be interesting for all of us to reflect on our favorite Opening Day memories.

Here's mine, even though it isn't technically Opening Day: it was the Yankees' home opener in 2003, and at the time I was in third grade. I was let out of school just after the game started and I immediately turned the television on after getting home. At that time YES Network was only available via a cable box, so we had one box on our basement television so I could watch. It also happened to be Hideki Matsui's first game at Yankee Stadium, and I was especially excited. This guy was beloved in Japan and even though I knew nothing about prospects at this age, I was really intrigued to see him in pinstripes. And voila, he did this:

My basement is in kind of a circular shape that revolves around a staircase, and when I saw the ball sailing into the seats, I literally ran in that circle as fast as I could yelling, "GODZILLA!" It was a cool memory because it was one of my first years as a Yankees fan, and I still have never been to an Opening Day game. It was the closest I ever got to feeling that kind of giddy excitement that you'd get at the ballpark Opening Day, which is basically what being a kid and a baseball fan is like.

So, what's your favorite Opening Day memory? It could be a memory of Opening Day itself or maybe a home opener, but we'd love you to share. Any game that makes you remember a random weekday, as I've said, is pretty special in my mind.

The Yankees still have two spring training games to go before Opening Day, but manager Joe Girardi announced quite a few answers to the lingering roster questions during Thursday's game. Some of the answers were more obvious than others, of course, but it still presented a clearer picture of the team that will head north for Monday.

Least surprising of all Girardi's announcements was that Masahiro Tanaka would be the team's Opening Day starter. This only briefly seemed in doubt when Girardi issued a bit of a challenge to his ace to step it up in his final start of spring training. Tanaka performed well enough to still get the nod for Opening Day, which probably makes the most sense as long as he is healthy.

Austin Romine was officially named the team's backup catcher, which also isn't surprising at all. Gary Sanchez was Romine's only real competition and he failed to hit well enough in camp to even make it to the end. There was an outside chance that the Yankees would give the job to a veteran like Carlos Corporan, but playing time indicated they weren't serious about him as an option.

Two somewhat prospects have made the Opening Day bullpen. Johnny Barbato and Luis Cessa pitched well enough to crack the roster with the status of Bryan Mitchell and Andrew Miller still in doubt. Cessa was acquired in the Justin Wilson trade, and was expected to serve as starter depth at Triple-A. Apparently the team feels as though he can best help out in the big league bullpen for now. Kirby Yates is also expected to make the bullpen for Opening Day, which makes sense with how good he has looked this spring.

One spot that hasn't been settled yet, if you believe Girardi, is fifth starter. It would be completely shocking for the spot to not go to CC Sabathia, but Girardi isn't ready to say that out loud yet. Neither Sabathia nor Ivan Nova have had amazing springs, but one of them has to be the team's final starter. All common sense indicates it will be Sabathia, but the fact that Girardi won't come out and say it yet is at least a little surprising.

The Yankees could also be getting back an old friend at some point this week. Jake Cave, who was taken by the Reds in the Rule 5 draft, was placed on waivers earlier today. Unless another team is willing to claim him and put him on their Opening Day roster, the Reds will need to return him to the Yankees.

Cave wasn't a huge loss with the amount of outfield depth the Yankees have, but he is a very solid player. He could see big league time at some point this year, which is important with the starting outfield being extremely injury prone. It's not a guarantee he'll be back just yet, but all signs point to the fact that he will.

What do you think of the final changes to the Yankees' Opening Day roster?

Spring training is nearly finished, the roster is almost complete, and the players are as ready as they'll ever be to start the regular season. Opening Day 2016 is almost here after the long winter of our discontent without any baseball to fill our day. Life is about to get a lot more exciting.

The Yankees will host the Houston Astros at Yankee Stadium on Monday, April 4th in what will be a rematch of the 2015 American League Wild Card Game. In fact, the pitching matchup should be the same with Masahiro Tanaka likely to get the nod and Dallas Keuchel set to start. It's unfortunate we have to relive such painful memories so soon out of the gate, but it's better to get it over with now instead of having to think about it all season. I'm sure the broadcast will have plenty of video and commentary to make certain you didn't forget how last year ended for the Yankees.

The official game time is 1:05 PM, but there is sure to be some pre-game coverage and ceremonies that you might want to watch. Be sure you're ready to tune in when the game starts so you can follow along with us. We will have a game thread up here at 12:30 PM, and we hope you stop by to talk baseball and have some fun with us. If you're new to PSA (welcome), we have a thread up every day about 30 minutes before official game time, so plan accordingly.

If you are located in the Yankees' direct market of New York, New Jersey, and Connecticut, you can watch the Yankees on the YES Network. In case you don't already know what channel that is on your TV, here's a nifty channel locator that will tell you. You might have already noticed, but if you have Comcast, you no longer get the YES Network–a move that has led the Yankees to go full propaganda against them to try and get you to give them more money. For everyone else out-of-market, ESPN will be broadcasting the game, but you're on your own for the majority of the season.

If you live outside the New York area, MLB.tv is a great way to follow the team. You can subscribe to their full service for all 30 teams with yearly or monthly payments, or–for the first time–you can choose to pay for a single team. If you live in the New York area but don't have cable, MLB.tv is pretty useless.

Beyond these two means, radio is still a good choice if you can stomach the dynamic duo of John Sterling and Suzyn Waldman. The games are broadcast on WFAN 660 AM and 101.9 FM. Tune in to WADO 1280 AM para Español.

You should hopefully be able to get the game using one of these three methods. If not, there's always Gameday on MLB.com–which I know you all used at one point in time. Be sure to check in with us on Opening Day so we can all enjoy baseball together. Let's go Yankees!

The two biggest factors for the Yankees in 2016 will be whether or not they can stay healthy and whether or not their youth movement continues to be successful. Not completely unrelated to one another, relying more heavily on youth allows the Yankees to get away from needing older, injury-prone players to produce quite as much.

None of that is to say that there aren't older players the Yankees are relying on. Three of them, in fact, are quite essential to how the season goes for the Bronx Bombers. Alex Rodriguez, Carlos Beltran, and Mark Teixeira are all closer to the end of their careers than the beginning. Rodriguez and Beltran are both looking at retirement in the next couple of years. Can their bodies stand up to the wear and tear of a full MLB season?

Rodriguez and Beltran managed to stay on the field in 2015, but Teixeira wasn't quite as lucky. His broken leg was fluky, to be sure, but it continues a pattern for the first baseman of just not being able to grind out a healthy season. Teixeira and Rodriguez carried the team offensively at the beginning of the season, and the Yankees will need them to do so again if they have hopes of getting back to the playoffs.

The good news, however, is that there are more and more younger players being mixed in with the old guard. Didi Gregorius and Starlin Castro are a dynamic duo up the middle that should be solid for many seasons to come. The rotation is made up of primarily younger players with only CC Sabathia really representing a veteran presence. Middle relief will likely also be younger rather than older with prospects getting a chance to prove themselves.

Youth doesn't necessarily mean a player is free from the worries of injury. In fact, that young pitching rotation is made up of four guys with huge injury concerns and a pitcher who is barely out of rookie eligibility. Masahiro Tanaka's elbow is going to be a concern with every pitch he throws, especially as long as he continues to be more middling than dominant. Michael Pineda has looked incredible at times, but injuries have kept him from really taking the next step. Nathan Eovaldi turned in a fantastic performance in the second half of last season before injury cost him the rest of the year.

The outfield is another group where injuries are a concern. Both Brett Gardner and Jacoby Ellsbury, who are supposed to represent the more reliable outfielders, were hobbled in spring training by lingering injuries they suffered last season. They both seem to be healthy right now, but neither one has shown that they can actually stay that way. Ellsbury seems more prone to end up on the disabled list with whatever ails him but Gardner plays through it to the detriment of his offense. That's not necessarily a good trade off.

If this team can stay healthy, the sky is really the limit. That is a gigantic if, though. It seems like the success of the Yankees every year depends on whether or not a group of guys can avoid serious injury, and maybe that is true for players on every team. The AL East is there for the taking without any one team being a clear favorite without obvious holes. Getting production out of their youthful players and keeping their injury prone players healthy will really be the difference in the Yankees making the playoffs and watching October baseball at home.

We all know who the top prospects in the Yankees organization are, and if you've been following us here, you've seen several prospect lists. This time it's important to consider which minor league players you should know for the 2016 season. Many of these players might be up with the team at some point, so it's helpful to learn about them in advance.

Johnny Barbato, RHP: Despite his lack of experience at the major league level, he has a really good chance of making the team out of spring training. The organization has plenty of left-handed options, but reliable right-handed middle relief is something the Yankees are probably looking for. He has control issues, but his strikeout numbers could make him an important piece of the puzzle.

Luis Cessa, RHP: New to the organization in 2016, Cessa has impressed the Yankees in spring training this year. He struggled at the Triple-A level last year with the Mets and Tigers, but a new team and a new year gives him a fresh start. If he impresses in Scranton he will be one of their best options as a spot starter this year.

Ben Gamel, OF: He made a meteoric rise in Triple-A last season to beat out Jake Cave for a 40-man roster spot. Despite being a good candidate for a backup outfielder job, Gamel is lower on the depth chart than Mason Williams or Slade Heathcott. Luckily for him, Mason will be out of action for a few months following last season's shoulder surgery and Slade is always getting hurt.

Nick Goody, RHP: He never got a fair shake last year, getting lost in the up and down of the Scranton shuttle. Goody hasn't been very impressive in spring training, but he will get another shot in the majors this year.

Chad Green, RHP: He looked pretty bad in spring training, but he was acquired to provide rotation depth, and that is what he will do. He should get plenty of time in Triple-A and is a potential spot starter at some point this year.

Kyle Haynes, RHP: The Yankees acquired the reliever when they traded Chris Stewart to the Pirates a few years back. He was converted into a starting pitcher, but is probably a better reliever in the long run. He will spend most of the year in Triple-A, but could be on the Scranton express if they need him to make an emergency appearance before they send him packing.

Slade Heathcott, OF: This year, Slade will be spending most of his time in Triple-A, but he could be the first outfielder called up in case of an injury. He's very injury prone, but he can offer some quick value with his defense and base running before he gets hurt again. If he's still healthy, we should see him a lot later in the season.

Aaron Judge, OF: There is some speculation that Judge is a Rookie of the Year candidate, but there doesn't seem to be a good chance for him to spend much time in the majors without a major injury. Carlos Beltran improved in 2015 and has nowhere else to play, and Aaron Hicks is perfectly capable of filling in if someone gets hurt. Something to also consider is that Judge is still adjusting to a new leg kick in his batting stance and really needs to learn how to lay off an offspeed pitch before he can be an everyday solution in the majors. He will need to be added to the 40-man roster at some point before next winter's Rule 5 Draft, so we should see him in September at least. I could see a competition between him and Hicks to see who will be the 2017 right fielder after Beltran leaves.

Brady Lail, RHP: He seemed like an interesting under the radar rotation option, but his strikeout rate bottomed out in 2015 as the Yankees pushed him through three different levels. At this point, Lail might be a better option for the bullpen, but he could also end up offering value as a starter and reliever in an Adam Warren-type role. That's probably his ceiling at this point.

Jacob Lindgren, LHP: Much is expected from Lindgren, but his major league career hasn't gotten off to the greatest of starts. After struggling in his debut, he required elbow surgery and still didn't seem to be 100% this spring. Chasen Shreve will be the primary left-handed specialist to open up the season, but if Lindgren gets back to normal, I could see them bringing him up to move Shreve into more of a setup role. Remember, they traded Justin Wilson primarily to give Lindgren an opportunity to take on his role, so they'll give him a shot if they feel he can handle the workload.

Mark Montgomery, RHP: You know who he is, but the Yankees have abandoned him in the minors in recent years. He will be a member of the Scranton bullpen and could finally get a shot in the majors if the team decides to move players up and down again.

James Pazos, LHP: He was just cut from big league camp, but he likely remains the first alternative to Jacob Lindgren in case the Yankees decide they need another left-handed reliever. He was one of the only young pitchers to perform well in his debut last year, so the organization is probably keeping an eye on him and we should see him at some point in the year.

Rob Refsnyder, 2B/3B: He has a good chance of breaking camp with the team if he can handle third base, but how long will he really stay with them? He's adjusted to third much better than expected, though that still consists of getting hit in the face two days in a row and making a couple sub-par throws to first. If he makes the team, he's not likely to get much playing time and would probably only be an emergency third baseman. I could see him make the Opening Day roster, but ride the bench for several weeks before being sent back down for an extra reliever. There's no doubt Refsnyder will be up with the team throughout the season, but who really knows how important he will be.

Nick Rumbelow, RHP: Expected to be a valuable late-inning reliever, so far Rumbelow has not impressed in his time with the major league team. His 2015 debut was forgettable and he pitched his way out of a bullpen spot in spring training. At this point, the 24-year-old will have to wait his turn before he gets another chance in the majors. Who knows how long that could take.

Gary Sanchez, C: He didn't hit this spring, but that's not a huge concern right now. It actually made things easier. The right decision was made by making Austin Romine the backup catcher because it's one of the least important jobs on a major league team–especially in the early goings of the season when the starting catcher is healthy. The Yankees can let Sanchez continue to work behind the plate at Triple-A through June, while also manipulating his service time to keep him an extra year. That extra year they save now could be an extra year of a better Gary Sanchez when he's the starting catcher. It won't be long before we see him up in the big leagues.

Caleb Smith, LHP: There are several other prospects ahead of him in the team's rotation depth chart, but as a left-handed starting pitcher, Smith has a good chance to make an impact with the major league team. He will need time in Triple-A, but I could see him getting some attention over the long season.

Ronald Torreyes, 2B, 3B, SS: The Yankees just acquired Torreyes for nothing and he could prove to be a useful piece to their major league bench. He can play all over the field and is probably the biggest competition to Rob Refsnyder, who doesn't seem to be handling third base well enough. At the age of 23, think of him as a Brendan Ryan with a lot more upside with the bat.

Tyler Webb, LHP: Yet another left-handed option, Webb missed a lot of time last season with a hand injury. The Yankees will probably ket him re-establish himself in Scranton, since they have so much depth in front of him. Despite his impressive pedigree, scouts have referred to him as a future LOOGY, so he probably won't be banging down the door to the majors. There's a good chance we see him in September if all has gone well for him, though.

Mason Williams, OF: Still on the disabled list from his 2015 shoulder surgery, Mason will have to fight his way back up to the majors. He showed some promise in an extremely limited amount of time, but it's likely that the former prospect now tops out as a fourth outfielder when everything is said and done. His defense and base running skills will make him a valuable commodity when they can find room for him.
