2014 MLB Schedule: Yankees to open at Astros on April 1st

The 2014 season begins like the 2013 season ends. Yankees will kickoff next season with a series in Houston.

MLB has released their tentative 2014 schedule with the Arizona Diamondbacks and Los Angeles Dodgers opening in Sydney, Australia on March 22 and 23. The Yankees' first game will be April 1 against the Houston Astros in Houston. The Baltimore Orioles will visit Yankee Stadium for the home opener on April 7 with the first interleague series of the season coming against the Cubs on April 15 and 16 in New York.

The Yankees interleague match-ups for the season include the Cubs in the Bronx and at Wrigley Field, the Brewers at Miller Park, the usual Mets series featuring two games at Yankee Stadium and two games at Citi Field back-to-back, the Pirates traveling to the Bronx, a series against the Cardinals at Busch Stadium, and a three-game set against the Reds in Cincinnati.

Next season's first west coast road trip for the Yankees begins on May 5 when they travel to California to take on the Angels for three games before coming back through Milwaukee. They head back to the other coast on June 3 for a series with the Oakland Athletics and take on the Mariners at SAFECO Field starting on June 10. They are done with the west coast before the All-Star Break, which is pretty fantastic.

The season concludes with a tough stretch that involves almost entirely AL East opponents for the last month. If the race is close, that could certainly make or break their season right there. The season will end on the road against the Red Sox with the final game of the year on September 28.
