The New York Yankees activated Eduardo Nunez from the disabled list this morning. He will bat eighth and start at shortstop this afternoon against the Orioles. To make room for Nunez, David Phelps was subsequently placed on the disabled list with a right forearm strain. So basically one injured player replaces another on the DL, which has basically become the story of the 2013 Yankees. Mark Teixeira was placed on the 60 day DL to make room for Nunez on the 40.

Getting Nunez back will hopefully be a nice boost to the lineup for a couple of weeks before, barring any setbacks, Derek Jeter is set to make is return. He should at the very least be an upgrade over the fearsome group consisting of Jayson Nix, Alberto Gonzalez and now Luis Cruz. Nunez has been hitting the ball well on his rehab assignment, so hopefully that carries over.

David Phelps will be shut down for ten days and the Yankees will decide where to go with him from there. The upcoming starting rotation will be Hiroki Kuroda tomorrow, Phil Hughes Monday, CC Sabathia Tuesday, Ivan Nova Wednesday. Andy Pettitte gets the start today.
