The American League playoff teams get the night off after last night's decisive tiebreaker game. The two NL Wild Card teams face off for the right to play the St. Louis Cardinals in the NLDS beginning Thursday. Francisco Liriano had a fantastic year for the Bucs, going 16-8 with a 3.02 ERA. Johnny Cueto enters tonight's game at 5-2 on the season, in which he was on the DL three times, with a 2.82 ERA. Pittsburgh finished their season winners of their last three with a 94-68 record, getting edged for the division by the Cardinals. The Reds were third in the division with a 90-72 record after dropping their final five games, including a sweep by the Pirates.
Pittsburgh is, of course, enjoying their first winning season since 1992. They outscored Cincinnati 16-6 in the final series of the season to earn home field advantage for tonight's game. Tonight will mark the first playoff game in Pittsburgh since 1992. The Pirates won 50 games at PNC Park this season, and went 11-8 against the Reds in their season series.
The game will be televised on TBS and postseason.tv starting at 8:07 pm ET.
