There was a lot of hope that once Shohei Ohtani and Yoshinobu Yamamoto landed in their new homes, the free agent market would take off at last. Unfortunately, what has been a glacial offseason compared to the last few has continued to develop slowly, with several top pitchers still feeling out the market. I suppose this is beneficial to the Yankees, who still haven’t made a major commitment beyond their blockbuster trade for Juan Soto, but at the same time I’m sure a lot of people would love to see things develop beyond pondering over the same three guys for weeks at a time.
Meanwhile, we’ll keep keeping on over here. Malachi starts us off today with our first look at a rival in our trade history series with the Toronto Blue Jays, Estevão examines the case of Gleyber Torres and the Yankees’ unwillingness to talk about an extension, and Andrés features the man who, until two seasons ago, was the AL home run king in Roger Maris for our Top 100. Finally, later in the afternoon I’ll be back to open up the mailbag for this week.
1. Who is your dark horse to win a division as things stand currently?
2. If you’re a Giants fan, how vindicating was beating up the Eagles to close out the season even if they didn’t make the playoffs themselves?
