The Athletic | Ken Rosenthal: After deeper links appeared to be made between the Yankees and Blake Snell on Thursday, the club seems more interested in the trade market. White Sox starter Dylan Cease is reportedly being heavily dug into by the Yanks, and as Chicago’s system is in particular need of up-the-middle bats, the Yankee farm system may be a logical fit. After the Juan Soto trade though, New York’s prospect capital has taken a hit, and a bidding war may be difficult to win.

MLB Trade Rumors | Darragh McDonald: Of course, there’s always the chance the White Sox keep Cease and gamble that a good first half puts them in good position in baseball’s weakest division. If not, they may pivot to a deal at the trade deadline, which we now know will be July 30th. The CBA gives the Commissioner’s Office latitude to set the deadline any time between July 28-Aug 5, and by picking a midweek day and a deadline before most games start, hopefully no teams will need to worry about removing players in the middle of one while a deal is finalized.

FanGraphs | Jay Jaffe: Today, Jaffe brings us the case of Matt Holliday, the one-time Rockies and Cardinals star who had a terrific half-season as Yankee DH back in 2017. Before contracting Epstein-Barr virus, Holliday was a steady veteran presence in a young lineup, bringing an .880 OPS to bear as well. It’s doubtful Holliday finds himself enshrined in Cooperstown, as he’s arguably not even in the Hall of Very Good, but you’d take a career like his for your franchise every time.
