Fixing Yankee lineup this offseason (not cheap)

Brief thoughts on 2024.

"I believe … Brian Cashman’s baseball operations veered toward treating analytics as a bible rather than a tool"

Joel Sherman, New York Post

Adjust the Front Office as needed. No, I do not think Cash has to go. His approach may have to adjust. Boone? A change may be needed for the sake of change, not necessarily that he is that bad a manager.

IMO Yankees need to capitalize on prime years of Cole and Judge – not rebuild but tweak to win in 2024 and beyond.

FAs that will go inc. Severino and Montas. IKF will look to play somewhere else. Maybe Peralta too.

I’d keep Peraza and Wells on the 25-man roster. Keep Pereira warm in Scranton.

Trade bait that is not a prospect is tough. German, Higgy, Stanton (yeah, right). I would trade Torres if they can get value. Few agree with that but I am tired of seeing him blow games with his glove and his baserunning – and I’ve never have warmed to his attitude.

Two weeks ago The idiot that said, "Harper is coming" said to go after LHH Donovan (3B and LF) and Moniak (OF) in a FanPost He makes good arguments. Even if it means trading Schmidt. Maybe there is some hybrid approach.

Absent that trade….

I originally thought adding a SP was in order but King seems capable of filling the fifth slot after Cole, Rodon, Cortes and Schmidt. But I would not argue if Yanks landed a stud SP, preferably via trade. Pitching wins games.

Neither Rizzo nor DJL may be capable of starting for an entire season. They could rotate at 1B, DH and bench.

Possible Starting Infield

Trevinio, Wells

Rizzo, DJL

Torres, Peraza, DJL

Volpe, Peraza, Cabrera

Peraza, DJL, Cabrera

Outfield is where free agency might help. I am on the Bellinger bandwagon; He plays CF while they wait for Jasson. Who moves to left when Jasson returns…. who knows? Kevin Kiermaier is an interesting option if he does not cost too much. I hesitate because of his injury history. Adam Duvall has no position in Boston. Then there is the trade route, Donovan – or Moniak.

Possible Starting Outfield

Judge, Cabrera

Bellinger, McKinney

TBD (Donovan?), Cabrera

Depth is a problem. Yankees get injured. FYI here is a list of pending FAs.
