Estevan Florial sent to Cleveland; Aaron Boone’s early lineup excitement; diving into Victor González’s potential after trade to New York

MLB: Arizona Diamondbacks at New York Yankees John Jones-USA TODAY Sports

New York Post | Mike Puma: The Yankees announced that they acquired pitcher Cody Morris in exchange for the once-highly touted outfield prospect, Estevan Florial. Morris didn’t have a banner year last season, but in 2022, he pitched in seven games to the tune of a 2.28 ERA (and flashed further talent in the minors). It was evident that Florial was not going to cut it in the Yankees outfield, even as an injury replacement, so why not take a swing on an arm that could be useful out of the bullpen in the future?

MLB.com | Bryan Hoch: There are some new additions to the Yankees lineup for the upcoming 2024 season. With Juan Soto and Alex Verdugo in the mix now, the batting order for 2024 still needs to be determined. Well manager Aaron Boone’s plan — if everyone manages to stay healthy, which is a big if — is detailed here, with a lot of questions riding on spring training performances as well.

New York Daily News | Gary Phillips ($): The Yankees already added to their bullpen earlier in the year, getting Victor González in a two-for-one swap that sent shortstop prospect Trey Sweeney to the Dodgers. González offers a bit of a higher-floor, lower-ceiling option for the Yankees’ bullpen, showing that they’re covering all corners in retooling their pitching staff.
