In an alternate reality, the Yankees would be preparing for just another normal day of spring training with an exhibition game this afternoon against the Red Sox. Wouldn’t that be nice? Instead, we have a lockout that has been at a near-complete standstill for a week and MLB calling the MLBPA’s latest offer —despite the concessions — a step backward. Cute.
Today on the site, Jesse will make the case that the Aaron Hicks, Luis Severino, and Giancarlo Stanton contracts are not the payroll burdens that they’re made out to be, and Peter will write up the profile on the first pitching prospect named Luis in our site-wide Top 10. Later on, Matt will take one of his customary strolls down the odd side roads of memory lane to look back on the biggest Championship Win Probably Added (cwPA) swings that came on unusual plays.
Fun Questions:
1. Do you think 45 days’ notice is enough time for MLB to implement changes like banning shifts or installing bigger bases?
2. What was your reaction to Duke losing its final home game under Coach K on Saturday? Angry? Gleeful? Didn’t care at all?
