I have an idea that I'd like to see the Yankees at least explore.
Let Clay Holmes see if he can handle a starting role.
Why do I think this:
His control improved dramatically with the Yankees.
With his main pitch being a rock-hard sinker, I saw an awful lot of Kevin Brown in him every time he took the mound.
He's a big, strong guy.
He has improved control.
He has a main pitch that leads to tons of ground balls.
I could easily see him average 6+ innings over a full season.
Length, control, and ground balls seems like a potential starter's profile to me.
If he works out, they have a big, strong, effective 5th/6th starter. If he doesn't, place him back in the pen.
Nothing ventured...nothing gained.
