The series in Boston has gotten off to a near-perfect start. Gerrit Cole wasn’t at his best, but the offense was, tagging Nathan Eovaldi and carrying the Yankees to a crucial 8-3 win. Paired with a Blue Jays loss in Minnesota, everything went right for the Yankees on Friday night. If they can carry that momentum well into Saturday afternoon, they could soon find themselves in strong position.

The pitching matchup today favors the Yankees on paper, and features a pair of castoffs who have turned around their careers. Néstor Cortes Jr. goes for the Yankees, coming off a short start against Texas earlier this week, while Nick Pivetta toes the rubber for Boston. Pivetta has a career 85 ERA+, but has given the Red Sox serviceable production in 2021. On the site, Josh goes over the Gerrit Cole question, namely, how the Yankees will deploy him over the season’s final days with a potential Wild Card Game looming. Emma will provide a profile of former Yankee executive Kim Ng, and Andres looks at Anthony Rizzo’s underwhelming power since coming over from Chicago.
