Today on Pinstripe Alley - 9/13/21

The Yankees lost an off-day a few weeks back, as they’ll make up a game with the Twins this afternoon.

I’ll admit that I did allow myself some hope that I might be writing this post after a win. The Yankees would’ve been in a fun three-way tie with Toronto and Boston atop the AL Wild Card standings. Alas, Clarke Schmidt, Chad Green, and Francisco Lindor had other plans. A day after snapping a seven-game losing streak, the Yankees lost again. They’re a full game behind the Blue Jays and Red Sox, out of a playoff spot for the first time since August 16th, fully squandering the 13-game winning streak.

The Yankees will need some help to get back into a Wild Card spot. The 20-games-in-20-days schedule might be grueling, but it’s at least throwing the Yankees a bone with four straight against the Twins and Orioles. Now will they capitalize? After the Yanks dropped two of three to the O’s last time they met, who the hell knows? Either way, they’ll start this afternoon in a make-up game against Minnesota.

Today on the site, Peter will preview that matchup against the Twins, Jesse will dive deep on the Yankees’ strikeout tendencies, and Ryan will wrap up with the weekly mailbag request.
