The Yankees look to turn a new page on September as the Subway Series begins.

Last night was more of the same from the Yankees in that it was another garbage game in this terrible, perhaps season-wrecking losing streak. They’ve dropped 10 of their last 12 games, and Toronto is now essentially even with them in the Wild Card mix after sweeping them four in a row in the Bronx. New York never even had a single, fleeting lead in that drubbing. Pathetic.

This weekend, the ship will either get righted or turned into a show of drowning clowns. The Yankees will pay the Mets a visit at Citi Field, and the Amazins are going through their own collapse — it’s just been longer and more drawn-out. On July 25th, the Mets were in first place and had 79.1-percent playoff odds, per FanGraphs. As of the end of play yesterday, they’ve fallen all the way down to 4.6 percent, as both Atlanta and Philadelphia have passed them by the standings. They are 14-23 since the trade deadline, and just two of those wins are against over-.500 teams.

So yeah, it’s now or never for the Yankees because if they drop a series to the post-deadline Mets? That’s a “YIKES” in all-caps, but I suppose nothing would surprise me at this point after losing a home series to the Orioles just a week ago. Whatever.

On the site today, Josh previews the aforementioned series against the Mets, Andrés ponders the highs and lows of Luis Gil, and Esteban will explore the swing mechanics of the slumping Gleyber Torres. Later, Dan will discuss the Yankees prospects taken in the Dominican Winter League (LIDOM) Draft, and Ryan will answer your mailbag questions.
