The Yankees try to avoid a sweep at the end of what will most likely be their final West Coast trip of 2021.

We’ve made it September. It wasn’t the road that anyone predicted the Yankees would take, and given preseason expectations, plenty of fans would be disappointed that they’re not really in the hunt for the AL East anymore. However, the Yankees do hold the top Wild Card spot after easily their best month of the season: a 21-8 August. The only downside was that it ended with all the dignity of a wet fart, as they lost four in a row immediately after winning 13 straight. Suddenly, the pressure is right back on to avoid an embarrassing sweep tonight at the hands of the middling, Troutless Angels.

Today on the site, Peter will run the latest monthly approval poll on Yankees GM Brian Cashman, John will break down Corey Kluber’s up-and-down outing return from the IL on Monday, and Andrés will detail Néstor Cortes Jr.’s potent repertoire. Later on, Esteban will explain why Luke Voit’s swing is even better than one might think, and Erica will profile Jason Parker, the Low-A pitcher recently acquired from Cincinnati as the PTBNL in the Luis Cessa/Justin Wilson trade.

1. If the Yankees have to use Gerrit Cole to simply clinch a playoff spot at the end of the season, who would you choose to start the Wild Card Game?

2. Which other playoff spot race are you most interested in tracking throughout September?
