New York Yankees vs. Kansas City Royals: Jameson Taillon vs. Carlos Hernández

Taillon looks to continue his strong run with a start at Kauffman

Jameson Taillon is in the middle of perhaps the best baseball of his career, after his disastrous 0.1 IP performance against the Phillies in mid-June. Since then, he’s allowed just 14 earned runs over the succeeding 53.2 innings, an ERA of 2.35. Taillon has a great chance to continue this hot run tonight in Kansas City, as the Royals are a bottom-five offensive team by most metrics.

The Yankee lineup, meanwhile, is starting to resemble the 2019 #NextManUp days, with shortstop Gleyber Torres moved to the IL this afternoon with a bum wrist, and Andrew Velazquez will be called upon to take his place at short. Velazquez has managed a 36 wRC+ in 113 career plate appearances, but really all that means is tonight would be a wonderful time for his first career home run. DJ LeMahieu also finds himself out of his customary leadoff spot for the first time this year, batting fifth with Brett Gardner at the top of the lineup instead.
