Something I confirmed last night that should not surprise anyone is that the Yankees have not completed a single four-game sweep in 2021. Yes, they’ve occasionally completed three-game sweeps this season, but the four-game sweep has remained elusive since September 11th through 13th of 2020 against the Orioles. The Yankees could’ve checked that box off yesterday, but once again in a day game, the offense didn’t show up. What a bummer way to end a fun weekend, huh?
The Yankees can atone a little for that missed opportunity with a good road trip, and they’ll begin that today in Kansas City. The playoff race has grown tighter, and the idle Blue Jays could actually catch the Yankees if New York loses tonight. The Royals are in fourth place, but they’re exactly the kind of club that would love to play spoiler. Hopefully, the Yankees take care of business and get off to a good start tonight with the surging Jameson Taillon on the bump.
Today on the site, Peter will preview that aforementioned series in Kansas City, and Andrés will dive into the excellent run of recent Yankees bullpen acquisition Clay Holmes. Later on, Ryan will put out the weekly mailbag questions prompt.
