There are a few teams that just have an edge on other teams. No matter what the scenario is for either side walking into a matchup, you’ll favor one over the other — the Twins are probably the best example of this for the Yankees, but the Mariners aren’t a bad alternative. Seattle was right on the Yankees’ heels entering this series, and it’s been a close contest, but the win has gone to the home team in the end every time so far. Now the Yankees are set up for a rare four-game sweep, which would go a long way towards breaking their abysmal record in securing sweeps this year.

Today seems like a good day to keep everything in perspective, so we’ve got a lot of content on the overall playoff race for you. Estevão brings out the first edition of a weekly check-in on the postseason push, while John has a two-part feature on how each of the teams in the hunt have gotten to this point. Matt looks back at some key moments where new Yankees made an immediate impression after being acquired, and Joe will have the social media spotlight for you after the game is over.
