New York Yankees vs. Baltimore Orioles: Jameson Taillon vs. Matt Harvey

After the deluge of runs scored by the Yankees last night, the team looks to back it up with their current ace on the mound, Jameson Taillon. This will be his first start since being named the American League Pitcher of the Month for July, when he went 4-0 in five starts with a 1.16 ERA. Over 31 innings, he allowed only 20 hits while striking out 25 over 31 innings. Restraining opponents to a .182 batting average against, this is exactly the kind of lights-out pitching the Yankees need to produce if they hope to continue to make up ground in the conference standings.

In terms of offense, today is a great day to take advantage of another struggling Orioles pitcher. Matt Harvey will make his start with an unsightly 6.20 ERA and 6-10 record on the season. To his credit, he has thrown 18 straight scoreless innings across his last few outings, but at this point in his career, that’s unlikely to continue for too long.

While the Yankees have struggled against Harvey in the past, including a 4-2 loss on April 26th, Aaron Judge, DJ LeMahieu, Giancarlo Stanton, and Kyle Higashioka (catching tonight after five straight days of catching for Gary Sánchez) are all batting at least .333 against him lifetime. Combined with the spark that Anthony Rizzo has contributed since the trade deadline, we can hopefully expect to witness another demonstration of what the Bombers are truly capable of putting forth.

As a small note, the Yankees will have outfielder Jonathan Davis on their bench tonight. He was claimed off waivers the other day from the Blue Jays, and the team had an open roster spot with Luis Gil back in the minors for now. (Although Gil will return to start on Sunday.)
