Today on Pinstripe Alley - 8/3/21

When the Yankees have bad days, they sure do know how to make ‘em hurt.

MLB: Baltimore Orioles at New York Yankees
The only good part of the day.
Vincent Carchietta-USA TODAY Sports

A bad night for the Yankees after a 7-1 loss to the last-place Orioles only got worse when Aaron Boone told reporters that Gerrit Cole had tested positive for COVID and will miss at least his start today. Oh, and Gio Urshela is heading to the injured list for his hamstring injury. Good times all around.

Today on the site, we’ll have two more writers making their PSA debuts, as Esteban explores how Joey Gallo’s swing has evolved in the past year and Erin details why the lackluster rotation depth is still likely to put a damper on any playoff hopes. We’ll also have Dan providing the weekly minor league report, Jon looking back on a very odd Billy Martin moment featuring Mike Pagliarulo, and Kunj praising the Yankees for at the very least giving us a reason to tune in for the stretch run with Gallo and Anthony Rizzo.
