After Wednesday night’s Joey Gallo zaniness, it was hard to expect everything that was to come on Thursday around MLB. Sure, there was the Yankees getting Anthony Rizzo out of seemingly nowhere, but there was also Max Scherzer appearing to head to the Padres, only to reverse course and reportedly land with the Dodgers ... alongside Trea Turner. LA also nabbed Danny Duffy from the Royals, and the Nationals continued their firesale with multiple moves. That included sending Kyle Schwarber to Boston shortly before midnight.
Got all that? Well I hope so because there are still several prominent names on the market who could move before the 4pm ET deadline. Luke Voit might be one of them, as the Yankees don’t seem to have much of a home for him with Rizzo in the fold now. Man, remember when Jay Bruce was the Opening Day first baseman? (Never mind, I don’t want to think about it.)
We’ll have ongoing trade deadline coverage on the site today, including Kevin on the Rizzo trade, community reactions on the Gallo and Rizzo deals, Peter pondering what might be next for the Yankees, Jon praising the Gallo addition, Peter previewing the upcoming Marlins series, and more. Stay tuned!
