Poor weather, worse forecast equals Yankees game postponement

Due to poor weather with the likelihood of it worsening, today’s Yankees vs. Angels game has been postponed.

There was a wide range of outlooks among Yankee fans today. Many were understandably frustrated, pessimistic, and fed up with last night’s – actually, earlier this morning’s – game result; others were more optimistic, glad that it was in the past, and were looking forward to day baseball in the Bronx this afternoon.

Neither end of the baseball fandom spectrum turned out to be the correct one, as today’s game with the Angels has been postponed due to inclement weather, with the strong likelihood that it would worsen as the afternoon wore on.

The Yankees released a statement announcing that today’s scheduled game would be rescheduled for Monday, August 16th at 7:05 pm at Yankee Stadium. Fans with tickets for today’s game can use them for the rescheduled game or exchange them for a similar 2021 game.

For the Yankees, it may be only a mild inconvenience, as they have an off-day the previous Friday the 13th (insert joke here) and will be returning from a day game in Chicago on the 15th. After the makeup of today’s game on the 16th, they’ll be hosting Boston the following night. The Yankees’ situation is definitely better than the Angels’, who have a 4:10 game in Los Angeles on Sunday the 15th, then travel to Detroit for a series with the Tigers starting Tuesday the 17th.

The state of the Yankees’ season is such that we fans aren’t sure if a rainout is a good thing or a bad thing. To paraphrase Crash Davis, maybe a rainout is what this team needs. They host the Mets tomorrow night for game one of a three-game Subway Series, first pitch 7:05 pm.
