Now you’d normally look at a team like the Angels — 37-40, fourth place in the AL West — and think the Yankees have a real chance to feast on a team that’s played pretty poorly this year. Of course, the Yankees have also played pretty poorly this year, and are fresh off getting swept right out of Fenway Park, so who knows what will happen when two disappointing squads lock up in the first of a four-game series tonight.
Michael King gets the ball following a meh performance against the Royals last week, that saw him pitch 4.2 innings giving up just two earned runs, although after leaving with the bases loaded, had Chad Green not saved the day King’s line would have looked much worse. Overall the swingman has a 4.05 ERA and 4.40 FIP on the year.
On the mound for the Angels is righty Dylan Bundy, who has fallen flat on his face after a breakout 2020 campaign. A 6.68 ERA backed up by a 5.26 FIP should be welcome news for a Yankee team that struggled to score against Boston last weekend, but we’ve said similar things about this club before.
