There’s been no tonic for what plagues the New York Yankees this year quite like the Minnesota Twins. They’ve clubbed six home runs in the first two games of this series, winning both of them and seeming to heat up a little offensively. They can sweep the Twins tonight with a similar explosive performance against a former Yankee.
J.A. Happ has struggled mightily with his new team, posting a 5.61 ERA, seeing a continuation of his four-year decline in strikeout rate and giving up far more contact than any of the previous seven seasons. He’s actually done a fairly good job suppressing home runs, but as more and more guys can put the bat on the ball, expect that figure to rise.
The lineup Happ will face features about as much raw righthanded power as you’ll ever see. No rest days today for the Yankees, as Aaron Judge, Giancarlo Stanton, Gary Sánchez and rookie Chris Gittens find themselves set to face that aging lefty.
